Cutest Baby Gift Ever!

Monday, February 13th, 2006

Not to toot my own horn, but I am pretty proud of this. I love making baby gifts…I don’t know why. The owners of the bakery had a baby girl just after Christmas and I have just not had a chance to make anything for her. Well I got the day off Saturday so I thought I would whip up some food for the family (they now have 4 kids!) and a cute outfit for Baby Natalie. I was searching some crafty sites when I found a link to this project. It was pretty easy to make and I had everything in the house already…what are the chances! I found the socks and headbands at Target in the dollar section so I based the design around those. In total this gift cost about 4 dollars…can’t be that!

This dress is easy to assemble…the trickiest part is sewing zigzag over the elastic so it can stretch with the baby but I just made sure to sew a really wide stitch.

Here is a link to the instructions.

I also have seen this done for an older child using a regular t-shirt…not a bad idea for the summer months up ahead, and a great way to recycle shirts.

The never ending baby blanket

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

After 2 months, half a pound of yarn, three attacks by the dog-cat, and many many lesson learned…the baby blanket is finished. I hope it is actually big enough to wrap around a baby, it is only 20 x 24 inches but I just couldn’t stand the sight of the yellow blob anymore. I am actually pretty proud of it, I did make some mistakes, but I think it adds character. I only used one strand of baby yarn, which I learned halfway through was a huge mistake, I would have been done weeks ago if I had used two strands together. I also used size 10 needles, I will always remember to use atleast 13 from now on. But you live and learn. I don’t know if I will make another blanket in the near future, I take that back…knowing me I probably will, but I will use much thicker yarn, larger needles, and keep all yarn balls hidden from the animals!

This blanket is for the new addition to the Castillo family, due in December…congrats to Paola and Javi!

Our Dog-Cat Sasha

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

This is what happens when you adopt a dog, that was raised around cats:

Eight hours of knitting and a pound of yarn that has been completely unwound (well luckily the knitting is still in tact). What is her obession with yarn?

The culprit, our Sasha:

What a mug shot!

But we still love her, she apparently got the urge to jump up and grab the yarn and run out the back door with it like a little fugitive. Evan couldn’t run fast enough after her, I’m just sorry I missed such a sight!

I hope to have the project done in the next two weeks, we will see how it fairs.
