Fiber One Caramel Delight Cereal

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Since I have begun eating better I have been trying my darndest to eat more protein. Not some much steaks and such, more lean proteins which means lots of egg whites, protein shakes and….cottage cheese. I have NEVER been able to stomach cottage cheese. It’s the smell, texture and taste of it that just turned my stomach. But I have learned to deal with it and found that brand does make a huge difference- Breakstone is my “favorite” right now. I have added sweet stuff, savory stuff and have pretty much decided to just add salt and pepper and gulp it down.

I was in a huge hurry this morning to get out the door and I remembered I had a sample of the new Fiber One Caramel Delight cereal, so I grabbed that. I figured I could snack on that with an apple. Once I got to the office, I found a container of cottage cheese that I didn’t eat yesterday so I decided to go daring and add the cereal to the cottage cheese. To my surprise…it rocked! Seriously, the cereal took away the soupiness of the cheese and added an awesome crunch and sweetness. This cereal is really good, albeit a bit too sweet for me to eat everyday. It also has some not so natural stuff in it, so I would try and limit to a once a week treat. But at 9 grams of fiber per cup, you can’t beat that and with the added protein of the cottage cheese, I have been full all morning.

Wow, that so sounded like a commercial, but I promise I am not being paid for my humble opinion. But I would suggest trying a sample of this. I believe you can still get it by signing up here. And if you dare…mix it with some cottage cheese ;)

Easiest Egg Biscuit Ever-Product Review

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Since Evan has been gone most of the week I have been relying on convenience foods to get me through, I have to admit I feel like Sandra Lee without the plastic baggies. This morning was cold and led to a light snowfall which means I worked form home :) I had a craving for a breakfats biscuit so instead getting dressed to go out I decided to try making one at home with some frozen Pillsbury biscuits. A couple weeks ago Harris Teeter had triple coupon weekend and I just went nuts buying things, one of them being a bag of sandwich sized frozen biscuits which I probably paid 50 cents for. I love a deal! I also love how these taste!

I threw one in the oven to bake for about 17 minutes, I then scrambled some eggs and cheese, I would have loved some bacon but we were out :( The biscuit baked up beautifully and separated well in the middle. I stuffed it with the eggs and breakfast was ready. These are really good, not as good as my usually Bojangles biscuit but this took care of my craving. A really good buy…save money by making your own breakfast sandwiches!

Product Review- Nestle Swirled Chips

Monday, November 28th, 2005

This is what happens when you bring your husband to the grocery store…you bring home unnecessary baking goods. Ok, ok I have to admit, I tend to buy more chocolate chips, coconut, extracts and cocoa than one cook really needs, but Evan was like a little kid on our Sunday shopping trip, “oohh chocolate chips swirled!” His eyes light up like he has just seen Santa Claus himself…how could I resist such a cute face! I am going to be such a push over when we have kids. So I threw them in the cart, knowing good and well that I too wanted to try them myself. So I rationalize it, Evan made dinner so I would make cookies- it’s a fair deal.

We got the Nestle Semi-Sweet morsels swirled with white chocolate, the other option was semi-sweet with caramel…trust me it was a tough decision. I baked my famous but very secret chocolate chip cookies with the chips. Mmmm…delish. Nothing too spectacular but a nice change of pace nonetheless. I would buy them again when they were on sale again. I would like to try the caramel swirl chips in a chocolate/mocha based cookie…now I bet that would be divine!

Product Review- Honey Spread

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

While I was picking up a few itens for last nights baking session, I saw a new product line out from Country Crock. I have mentioned previously that I grew up on Country Crock and I absolutely love it! Well they have put out flavored spreads for the holidays. These flavors include pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and honey all in cute little tubs that were 99 cents each at my Kroger. Now in comparison to the 5 pound tub we usually get, it’s not such a good deal but I couldn’t resist trying it. I slapped some on a warm piece of challah (or holla as Evan spells it) and it was quite nice. Not too sweet like the stuff at Golden Corral- though I haven’t been there in years but I remember feeling like I had just licked the inside of a honey jar. It is perfect for things like challah, or even a rustic honey wheat bread. I won’t use it everyday, but it is a nice treat.

I might venture out and try the pumpkin spread, that would be fabulous on my new favorite pumpkin muffins :)
